Man charged after woman found stabbed to death in Carrboro apartment

CARRBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Carrboro Police Department has made an arrest following a homicide investigation

On Thursday, officers responded just after 3:15 p.m. to an apartment on Cedarwood Lane after a disturbance call. They found a woman stabbed to death inside the home.

On Friday, police identified her as Shayna Watson, 38, of Carrboro.

The investigation led authorities to 42-year-old Desmond Cook, of Carrboro. Cook was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

Police said this was not a case of domestic violence.

Cook is being held in the Orange County Detention Center with no bond.

Police said it appeared to be an isolated incident and there was not believed to be an ongoing threat to the public.

The case remains under active investigation.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Chapel Hill Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff's Office all assisted.
